LARUNG GAR, also known as the “City in the Sky” is a magical place that lies at the eastern end of the vast Tibetan Plateau. As the largest Tibetan Buddhist institute in the world, this monumental landmark is home to about 40,000 residents, including monks, nuns, and visiting students, a sacred place renowned for producing some of the most eminent scholars in the recent history of Tibetan Buddhism. The series below is inspired by the staggering scale, beauty and complexity of this breathtaking architectural landscape that seems so chaotic yet very calming.
Over thousands of fragmented “Tibetan Incense” are applied as a symbolic medium each representing tiny houses, a unique expression and a sensorial meditation capturing the faith and fragility that define this enchanting valley.
